While Leonard Andrew Consulting has collaborated with numerous mental health and wellness professionals in the past, we're excited to be taking a big step with a business that will surely allow our student-athletes to push forward in their physical progress and overall conditioning.

LAC is proud to announce it's collaboration with CT Orofacial Myology LLC -- a healthcare professional providing patient-centered treatment plans to optimize the function of orofacial muscles. Their incorporation of unique modalities, such as The Buteyko Method, will be valuable for LAC's student-athletes as they prepare for their sports seasons and so that they can perform at their very best.

"Athletes are always looking for ways to improve their performance," notes Chad Dorman, LAC's Founder and Director. "CTOM will be tremendous in helping to establish optimal breathing patterns, making sure body systems are working in harmony so that players can be at the top of their game."

Athletes must breathe well if they are to achieve their maximum potential, and The Buteyko Method works to do just that. By working with CTOM to improve their breathing, our athletes will:
- Improve their body's oxygen exchange
- Have greater stamina and performance
- Have reduced production of lactic acid and cramping
- Have reduced chance of injury
- See improved recovery time and reduced soreness
- And their bodies will be able to be hydrated more efficiently

This is a collaboration unlike any other, and we're excited for our future together in helping student-athletes to perform at their very best!

Introducing LACu -- Online Summer Enrichment Courses

As we’ve connected with families and students in the last two months, we learned that more and more of them were not only worried about the current online learning situation, but also were apprehensive about what comes next – is there to be a ‘COVID slide’ much like a ‘summer slide’? While schools and teachers did their absolute best, was it enough? Is my student pushing herself or himself in this new ‘homeschool’ experience? Am I doing everything I can as a parent?

Parents expressed that they were concerned about the ramifications of particular skills not being addressed by their school’s platform or remote curriculum. Several families simply want more opportunity and options for learning and enrichment – maybe camp was cancelled, an in-person summer course postponed.

While the rest of the world remains closed off, this is a time to broaden horizons – allowing for learning, development, creativity, and positive action. At LAC we remind students that it is always important to improve themselves and build towards their future, optimize their brand and their goals, and strive towards their versions of success.
This is their life - their story - and they hold the pen. It’s our goal to guide them in writing and crafting chapters that make them proud, elevate their skills, and constantly challenge them to be their best.

To that end LAC is proud to announce the launch of our summer enrichment courses and the first official installment of LACu! Our team has worked to pull together some great online courses that will allow students to follow their passions, boost their resumes, and build on experiences.

Starting June 1st, the enrichment courses offered will be four to six weeks long, instructor-led via Zoom, and open-enrollment. We do not want to add strain in an already stressful time – we want to do the opposite – encouraging our students to have fun while building skills.

And we’ve heard loud and clear what parents would like to see taught in middle and high schools, so with both one-on-one sessions and small groups we are featuring courses like personal finance, creative writing, and networking. We are certain that your child will take valuable strides this summer, take the first step with us!

COVID-19 UPDATE: Common App to Offer Optional Pandemic Question

5/16/2020

The widely used Common Application has made an update to their questions for the 2020-21 application cycle.

While fallout and changes will continue to be fluid as the dust settles from the pandemic, it at first seemed as though many colleges would rather candidates not write in their college essay about the virus and situations surrounding it (for fear of potential 'over-saturation' -- "how would your piece stand out?"), but as of the end of this week there will now be a specific question dedicated to this unprecedented occurrence in our world's history so that you may share your experience with the colleges and universities if you'd like.

This question allows candidates a dedicated space to elaborate on the pandemic's impact - personally, athletically, academically, socially. The goal with this is to have students answer the COVID19 question once, while completing the rest of the application as they would have utilized it if the virus was not a thing.

The question will be:
Community disruptions such as COVID-19 and natural disasters can have deep and long-lasting impacts. If you need it, this space is yours to describe those impacts. Colleges care about the effects on your health and well-being, safety, family circumstances, future plans, and education, including access to reliable technology and quiet study spaces.
  • Do you wish to share anything on this topic? Y/N
  • Please use this space to describe how these events have impacted you.

High school juniors - be thinking of this question and how you may be answering it NOW while it is freshly (and unfortunately) occurring. Think about how life has been shifted, how your experiences and thinking have been altered for both the negative and the positive.

Note that this question will be optional and will appear at the end of the application in the 'Additional Information' section. The response length will be limited to 250 words. The optional prompt will be then accompanied by a more detailed section allowing students to make note of any impacts they may wish to describe, "including illness and loss, housing and employment disruptions, and shifting family obligations." This new portion of the application will not replace the current 'Additional Information' question which asks if students want to discuss circumstances and qualifications not reflected elsewhere in the application. That question, along with its 650 word limit, will remain.

For additional details on this update from the Common App click here.
